The Berg River area forms the northern most part of the route and stretches from the banks of the mighty Berg River to the towering mountain peaks of Piketberg and Porterville in the east.  The wines cultivated from the grapes grown in this area reflect the vast terroir and climatic differences characteristic of this area.

Winkelshoek complex is a one-stop-shop where you can purchase Winkelshoek’s wines as well as the wines of the other cellars of the Swartland region. The complex includes a crafts and curio shop, wine shop, Spur Steak Ranch and a Total filling station.

Just south of Winkelshoek on the banks of the Berg River Johan Mostert, passionate winemaker and owner of the private winery Nieuwedrift Vineyards plies his trade. Nieuwedrift Vineyards produced its very first wine, a crisp Chenin Blanc, in 2004.

The magnificent organic wine farm Org de Rac Domain, near the Berg River bridge off the N7, are endorsed by the Soil association in Bristol, UK – following very strict organic production methods. All crushing, pressing, fermentation, fining, maturation and bottling operations are carried out on the premises. Their wines include the Org de Rac range (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Rosé) and the Family Reserve range (Cabertnet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz)

"Greenacres-Garagista" comprise a number of individuals that are passionate about wine-making. They have a small rustic cellar at Houdconstant Farm in Porterville, producing a Robust Cabernet Sauvignion, a Fruity Merlot and a Tropical Chenin Blanc.
