Berg River Region Swartland Wine Route

The wines of this region are made from grapes cultivated from a vast climatically variable area, stretching from the banks of the Berg River to the foot of the Groot Winterhoek Mountains in Porterville.

Wineries in the Piketberg/Porterville area

Johan Mostert, passionate winemaker and owner of the private winery Nieuwedrift Vineyards plies his trade here on the banks of the Berg River.  Nieuwedrift Vineyards produced its very first wine, a crisp Chenin Blanc, in 2004.

The organic wine farm Org de Rac is endorsed by the Soil Association in Bristol, UK. All crushing, pressing, fermentation, maturation and bottling operations are carried out on the premises. Their wines include the Org de Rac range (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Rosé) and the Family Reserve range (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz).

Wildehurst Wines is boutique winery owned by Joanne Hurst in the quaint village of Koringberg.

Winkelshoek is a one-stop shop where you can purchase Winkelshoek wines as well as the wines of the other cellars of the Swartland region. The complex includes a tourism information office, crafts and curio shop, wine shop, restaurant and petrol station.
