With early morning mists dissipating against its craggy upper slopes, the Kasteelberg forms a magnificent profile to the Riebeek Valley and serves as the focal point for Riebeek Cellars, which resides at the foot of this mountain. The cellar, just 45 minutes north west of Cape Town, was established in 1941 but many of its members are descendants of long-established Huguenot winemaking families, who have been involved in this industry for centuries.

The twin villages of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West have in recent years become a centre of attraction as both a wine tourism destination and artist's paradise.

While the pasionate winemakers ensure that the cellar keeps up with world trends, they insist that "we don't follow blindly - our wines are still very much 'Riebeek', very much our own".
