With early-morning mists dissipating against its craggy upper slopes, the Kasteelberg forms a magnificent backdrop to the Riebeek Valley and serves as the focal point for Riebeek Cellars, which resides at the foot of this mountain. The cellar was established in 1941 but many of its members are descendants of long-established Huguenot winemaking families who have been involved in this industry for centuries.
While the passionate winemakers ensure that the cellar keeps up with world trends, they insist that ‘we don't follow blindly - our wines are still very much ‘'Riebeek'’, very much our own’.
The Riebeek Cellars Collection celebrates life and the everyday enjoyment of quality wine, offering a wine for every occasion: Late Harvest, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Montino Petillant Light, Montino Natural Sweet Petillant Rose, Pieter Cruythoff Brut Sparkling Wine, Pinotage Rosé, Shiraz/Cinsaut, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet/Merlot, Cape Ruby and Red Jerepiko.
The Riebeek Cellars Reserve Selection wines are made only in exceptional vintages. The grapes are carefully selected and the wines meticulously crafted and barrel matured. The range consists of Chenin Blanc, Shiraz and Pinotage. From 2010, these wines will become part of the newly released, ultra-premium, small-volume Kasteelberg range. The first MCC sparkling wine in the Swartland is also available under this label.
When a vintage lends itself to a particular style or cultivar not usually done in any of Riebeek Cellars’ ranges, the wine is issued as a limited release. Currently the range consists of only the 2009 Chenin Blanc from the Zonquasdrift vineyard, planted in 1962.
Made from single-vineyard top-quality grapes, A Few Good Men wines are barrel matured and offer optimum fruit and well-balanced oak. The range consists of Chardonnay, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage.
