Babylon’s Peak is a private cellar, nestled in the slopes of the Paardeberg Mountain, between Malmesbury and Paarl. Some of the highest vineyards in the Swartland region are found here – about 700m above sea-level. The cellar is built on the farm Nooitgedacht, which already belongs to the Basson family for four generations.

The old cellar was in production until 1948, when all the farmers in the area got together and decided to establish a co-operative cellar. From then on, all the grapes were delivered to the co-operative cellar. In 2003 a dream became true when Stephan Basson decided to renovate the old cellar and start making wine again.

The name ‘Babylon’s Peak’ is derived from a very high granite peak on the farm, which is known to local people as ‘Babylonstoren’. Babylon’s Peak sets very high standards to the wine bottled under this label – 2003 was the first vintage and only two wines were bottled.
